The Police - Message In A Box
i forget how dark "I Can't Stand Losing You" is. it's a suicide note, or at least the letter you send your recent x threatening suicide with the hope that (s)he'll come back to you. it's the most desperate song you put on your break up mix tape. remember, only use it when you were dumped. if you ended it, this song makes you sound like an asshole. i'm still impressed at Sting's brainy lyrics and the band's musical creativity. The Police were a punk band that got into reggae then morphed into a stadium rock/adult contemporary group. they were self-aware enough to call their second album "white reggae", well-enough-read to namecheck nabokov, and pretentious enough to write two songs about (and title an album after) Jung's concept of synchronicity. they also have a handful of Velvet Underground-style spoken word experiments. The Police, for all their latter-day commercialism, were not unadventurous.
