pop tools (a rant)
you know what? Christina got shafted. Madonna kissed both her and Britney, but mtv didn't know it was coming, so they cut to Justin for his reaction and no one got a picture of the Madonna-Christina kiss. so now in people Britney and Madonna are all chummy and Christina who? but i bet Britney and Madonna aren't any closer than Christina and Madonna. or even Christina and Britney. i know they're all just pop tools, but it's still unfair to Christina. maybe i feel this way because i think Christina is the more talented of the two young pop vixens and i always prefer talent to triumph over popularity. usually it doesn't.

madonna is such a tool. listening to her cds yesterday--i realized she sucks as a songwriter. her lyrics are pedestrian, boring, painful even. sure she has her moments, nuggets like "strangers making the most of the dark", but so do i. in fact, i'm probably a better writer than she is. or could be with practice of the form. it's so dumb-sounding.

i do have to give the detroit child turned global phenomenon props for 'Papa Don't Preach'. rarely does pop music, especially pop music with the reach of Madonna, cover such controversial subjects as teen pregnancy. and the video had danny aiello.

as for myself, i have a mac now and i'm going to re-structure my apartment to accomodate it. this means in a week or two i'll be able to play with protools and make rudimentary recordings. i forgot to get headphones or speakers, so i'll have to go to the mac store in chicago, or maybe just to guitar center on clark. in the meantime i'll make do with my ipod earbuds. better than nothing.

this week, besides slang (which is going nicely, thank you) i have possibly the Rainer Maria w/ Denali show thursday night. words about that after, i hope. next week empty bottle and the wire present 'adventures in music' to which i have a pass. 5 nights of non-mainstream music. additionally next thursday i have an aesop rock ticket. that should be pretty cool too. words for those will come bleary-eyed the next day from work.
